Outdoor Pilates on The YogaForce A-Line Mat. Great way to practice for going out on the water.

May is skin cancer awareness month.  The weather is getting good.  So, we can finally get out and do some fun outdoor sports.  As a skin cancer survivor, I LOVE the sun; but, I am careful about being diligent about applying 30 SPF.  I am not going to stay inside.  I love outside yoga, Pilates, running, and paddleboarding!

Yoga on the board. Paddleboarding is a blast. See below for 9 more moves you can try.

More and more people have moved to take their yoga practice beyond the security of four walls and a roof. People have been moving their practice out into nature. The beautiful and changing views of taking your practice outdoors is guaranteed to test your concentration. Many yogis have raved about this as it helps to keep you mindful throughout your poses.

To take it one step further many people have brought their practice onto a Paddle Board. This has all the same advantages of outdoor yoga with one more huge benefit! Paddleboarding is a sport that nearly anyone can do. You can set your own pace and choose your destination. Paddling also activates different muscles than you’re used to. You are able to combine a workout, that doesn’t feel like one, to get your muscles warm with the calming nature of yoga.

You may be skeptical about bringing your practice to your stand up paddleboard, but it’s actually a natural progression. Being able to head out for a sunset paddle and have the option to enter Savasana will open your eyes to the endless possibilities yoga allows. There are some things you should keep in mind when balancing on your board.

Doing yoga on your paddle board may take some getting used to but you will soon enjoy it. Having the right stand up paddleboard for yoga does help. Not only do you have to focus on your posture in your poses but also balancing on your board. If you really need some extra help balancing we recommend the YogaForce A-Line mat to help with body alignment.  This actually improves your experience. You will find that you slow down and create smooth movements between poses. You will also be happy to know that your body will start to use muscles you never knew you had.
