broken-news

Ever wonder if the news coverage of the days events can be toxic to your health? I believe that a case can be made that after 9/11, our nation’s need to escape, turn off and do yoga for an hour or more a day greatly increased. Americans do a lot of yoga. And what many people thought was only a fad in the 1990’s has exploded since 2001. So has coverage of bad news.

Just watching, reading or listening to bad news has been proven to cause psychological, emotional and physical damage. The way to deal with toxic news is to escape it. Limit the amount of time you spend on news. Try it for one week, be informed but not over saturated in the days events. It is a fact that there are many more good people in the world than bad and in the end, good is triumphant. Undertaking health and well being activities like proper diet and exercise, meditation, yoga and breathing exercises can lead to a clearer mind and a happier you.

Please share this with the older adults in your life who sit around all day and watch the news. Sitting is the new smoking and watching the news too much can tilt you right over the edge.  Same thing can be said of binge watching according to a resent Harvard study:   Click here to view article.

Bottom line:  Move more and be positive.
